Former Brazil defender Cris believes the Selecao are not yet ready to win the 2014 World Cup, despite progress being made.

Luiz Felipe Scolari's side faces France in a friendly Sunday, and Cris gave his thoughts on both the game and Brazil's current state, a year before it hosts football's grandest tournament.

"This team have worked together for a while now, and Luiz Felipe Scolari is putting together a strong group of players," Cris told L'equipe. "We are not yet ready to win the World Cup, but we are definitely seeing signs of progress.

"Both Brazil and France are under construction, but there is great talent in both squads. [France coach] Didier Deschamps is doing a good job, and I am sure they will qualify for the World Cup."

This match holds a special place in Cris' heart. Currently at Gremio, Cris spent a large chunk of his career playing for Lyon in France. He says it is great to see so many familiar faces from previous years.

"I lived in France for eight years, and I can't wait for the game, even though it is only a friendly," Cris said.
"It's nice to see friends with whom I've shared some wonderful moments. Bafe [Bafetimbi Gomis], Hugo [Lloris], [Alexandre] Lacazette and [Clement] Grenier.

"It will be a special game, especially for us. We still remember the two World Cup defeats, in 1998 and 2006."

Cris played 27 times for Brazil between 2001 and 2009, scoring once.
