A fee of £47.5 million had been previously reported, meaning that Barnsley are set to cash in to the tune of over £7 million, due to a 15% sell-on clause added to the deal when the England international moved to Goodison Park in 2013. The fee makes Stones the second most expensive defender in the world. City's confirmation of the signing came after Uefa had released the squad details for Pep Guardiola's side's upcoming Champions League tie with Steaua Bucharest which revealed the Barnsley-born player's name on the list. Stones, who has 10 England caps to his name, said he is 'delighted' to sign for an 'ambitious club with a great manager'. "I'm absolutely delighted to sign for City and now the deal's done I'm looking forward to the next stage in my career," said Stones.
